Bentley Motors celebrated 80 years of car production at its Crewe headquarters with a gathering of more than 100 customer-owned Bentleys representing every major era of the marque’s history. Organized in partnership with the Bentley Drivers Club, which is marking its own 90th anniversary this year, the event highlighted both the company’s heritage and the continued evolution of its manufacturing operations in Cheshire.
A total of 107 Bentleys lined Pyms Lane outside the factory in chronological order, beginning with EXP3, the first Bentley delivered to a customer, and concluding with a current Flying Spur Speed. The display included pre-war W.O. Bentley models, Derby-built cars, post-war Crewe production, the iconic Blower, Continental grand tourers and the Bentayga, creating a timeline that spanned more than a century of Bentley history.
Bentley has built its cars at Crewe since 1946, when production moved into the former Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine factory. Over the past eight decades, the site has grown into the company’s global headquarters, housing design, engineering, research and development, manufacturing and commercial operations on a single campus. Today, that campus is undergoing its largest redevelopment yet as Bentley continues work on its next-generation “Dream Factory,” adding new digital manufacturing technologies while retaining the traditional craftsmanship that remains central to the brand.
The transformation has included the addition of a new Design Studio, Engineering Technical Centre, Excellence Centre for Quality and Launch, Integrated Logistics Centre and a recently opened Paint Shop. Bentley is also preparing the site’s oldest building to become the assembly facility for its first battery-electric model, scheduled to debut later this year.
To commemorate the anniversary, Bentley’s Mulliner division also revealed a one-off Continental GTC finished in Supernova Purple Ombre, a bespoke paint developed specifically for the occasion. The exterior features anniversary graphics and contrasting wheel finishes, while the cabin incorporates embroidered “80” headrests and a custom fascia graphic depicting Bentley’s Design Studio and celebrating eight decades of vehicle production at Crewe.
While the commemorative Continental GTC provided a focal point for the event, the anniversary itself underscored the significance of the Crewe facility. Eight decades after the first Bentley was built there, the site continues to combine traditional coachbuilding techniques with modern manufacturing as the company prepares for its next generation of luxury automobiles.
